Meeting with ITRE on 9-22-2009

Dan G., Billy B, and I (John K) met with Anne L. from ITRE to discuss their migration to WolfTech.

They've been working with ComTech since Febuary to get their firewall configurations set so that they can use DHCP and access other campus resources.  They are on VLANs 1414 and 1410.

They're going to get a "default" layout, under OU=ITRE,OU=Research in WolfTech.

They have their own fileserver, backed up by OIT.  Initially they won't be using DFS, but add that later once the main migration is compete.  Printing is to IP address, no server queues.  Clients will be in the itre.ncsu.edu DNS space.

We tried to establish a one way trust from their existing domain to WolfTech, but there appears to still be an outbound firewall rule preventing contact with the domain controllers.  Billy has some already scheduled time with ComTech and will work to resolve this.

Billy described how to make a copy of a profile from one domain on a Vista workstation to another, so that Anne's client's not see a substantal change.

Basic intro and naming conventions were discussed, as well as the steps required in QIP to migrate a workstation out of the windows dns space.

Once the firewall issues are addressed, Anne wil join a workstation to the domain, look around the new OU structure, modify it to meet her needs, and generate her next round of questions.
