The next time you are in the server room, please check the labeling on your servers to make sure it matches the actual server name. Servers should be labeled on the back and front.

The definitive source for information about server location is Quickbase. I understand that not everyone likes Quickbase, but it's all we have. If we keep the data accurate there, we will have accurate data to export to any new system that we develop.

There have been a number of situations where the label on the front of a server does not match the actual server name. Other than the CAMS tag, there currently is no consistent tagging of all OIT assets.

For those servers that do not currently have them, we will be adding asset tags. This is a small sticker with a NC State logo. There is a field in Asset Tracker for this tag, which will give us a unique way to identify servers.

NCSU audit findings (Alan)

- Certification of DC access by staff will be sent out every 6 months to supervisors

- We will start following established procedures more specifically

- Staff access to the data centers must be certified

- Still working on implementation of audit recomendations

- Back door at top of stairs inside DC1 has been blocked off

All the hosts in ITD rows 1 and 2 have been moved to new Cisco 3750e switches. Row 1 has an additional switch, allowing for the addition of 58 additional hosts (10 free on switch 1, 48 free on switch 2). Row 2 only has a single switch, so capacity has not increased.

Switch conversions for rows 3 and 4 will be taking place shortly....tom
